Backfire-Antennen sind professionelle Richtantennen mit sehr hohem Antennengewinn die früher sehr beliebt waren. Aufgrund ihrer extrem stabilen Bauweise und geringen Windlast eignet sich eine Backfire-Antenne hervorragend für Aussenmontagen an hohen Antennenmasten für Punkt-zu-Punkt WLAN-Verbindungen (PtP).

&lt;p&gt;
Das Funktionsprinzip des Dipol-Erregers, der sich über einem großen und unter einem kleinen Reflektor befindet, gab der Antenne ihren Namen. Die erst nach oben abgestrahlten Funkwellen werden von dem oberen Reflektor zurückgeworfen und dann vom unteren Reflektor gebündelt nach vorn abgestrahlt. Der relativ geringe Öffnungswinkel von +/- 20° prädestiniert die Backfire zu einer Top-Richtantenne mit sehr hohem Antennengewinn von ca. 14-16 dBi.
